Roger Federer claims the Wimbledon 2009

Roger Federer surpassed the record of major titles held by Pete Sampras by winning his 6th Wimbledon championship and 15th Grand Slam. Can we consider him the greatest tennis player in history?

Federer outlasted Andy Roddick 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14. He also served a served a career-high 50 aces. Watching from the sidelines as Federer celebrates was the seven-time Wimbledon champion Sampras, Bjorn Borg and Rod Laver.

“Sorry, Pete, I tried to hold him off.”

With his Wimbledon triumph, Federer reclaimed the No. 1 ranking he lost to Rafael Nadal. With this triumph also, he enhanced his reputation as perhaps the greatest of them all.
