Pay-Per-View King?
The Mayweather vs Marquez, after all, is only all about money. That is why for boxing fans all around the world, it isn't a highly anticipated match.
According to Golden Boy Promotions, Mayweather Jr. has postponed his comeback fight on July 18 because of a rib injury he suffered while training. According to Mayweather Jr., he was extremely disappointed that his comeback fight needs to be postponed - and so was Marquez.
But is the postponement really because of Mayweather's rib injury? Or is it because of the poor ticket sales? According to reliable sources, whether Mayweather suffered an injury or not, the major contributing factor in the decision to postpone the bout was because "ticket sales suck." Ticket sales were moving much slower than anticipated.
It ain't surprising that boxing fans are not that much interested in Mayweather anymore. To claim back the P4P throne on what he claimed was his, the guy simply is doing everything for attention. Besides, he will be fighting another smaller guy in Marquez. People want to watch warriors and certainly not dancers and runners. Mayweather vs Marquez will be a fight between a defensive boxer vs a counter-puncher. So who will be the aggressor in this match?
Rumors say that the bout might be staged on September 19, the weekend following Mexican Independence Day. This move will give Golden Boy Promotions much more time to promote the event and boost the ticket sales more particularly in Mexico.
The poor ticket buys for Mayweather's comeback doesn't surprise me anymore. Besides, this guy is only good in talking. Mayweather should let his fist do the talking and emulate Manny Pacquiao by letting his actions justify his billing. Pacquiao is fighting boxers either his size or even the bigger ones. How about Floyd?
