This is not the already launched Wave 2 smartphone S5220. But this is rather the new smartphone running under Samsung's own mobile operating system Bada OS v1.2 - the new Samsung Wave II S8530. It will be the successor to the very popular Samsung Wave S8500 - both sporting almost similar hardware specifications but will have a bigger 3.7 inch display.

The larger touchscreen display boasts of a 800 x 480 pixels resolution. Compared to the 3.3-inch Super AMOLED screen of the original Wave, the new Wave II display would be a Super clear LCD one. This new Bada smartphone also comes with enhanced software inside, such as the T9 input method Trace, which is said to be some sort of a Swype for Bada.

The rest of the specifications should be the same as with the first Bada handset - an ARM Cortex A8 1 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM and comes with a 5 MP camera with autofocus and LED flash. The camera can handle 720p video recording at 30 FPS. It will also have all the connectivity options: GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and GPS.

It will also have a 1.5 GB internal ROM with 390 MB user available memory and supports up to 32 GB microSD cards.

There is also the redesigned center key. The larger screen has lead to a larger body with the Wave II measuring 124 x 60 x 11.8 mm and weighs good 135 grams.

Samsung Wave II S8530 will be released November 2010 featuring a price tag of $590.

They had the chance to clinch the AL East but the lost to the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays' win over Kansas City Royals gave the Rays the AL East title.
Susan Reverby, a Wellesley College medical historian, has exposed another dark chapter in the history of medicine - American scientists deliberately infected prisoners and patients in a mental hospital in Guatemala with syphilis 60 years ago.

This U.S. government-funded experiment or STD study which ran from 1946 to 1948 was conducted to test if penicillin could prevent infection with sexually transmitted diseases. Although strict regulations today does not allow experiment on people without their consent and require special steps for any work with such vulnerable populations as prisoners, there were no such strict regulations in the 1940s.

Reverby discovered the experiment while researching the Tuskegee experiment for a recent book and uncovered the records of Dr. John Cutler, a prominent government scientist of the 1940s. She reported that there was a permission from Guatemalan officials to conduct the study but the experimental subjects were not informed. 696 men and women were exposed to syphilis or in some cases gonorrhea either through jail visits by prostitutes or by deliberately vaccinating them. Penicillin was then offered to those infected but it wasn't clear how many were infected and how many were successfully treated.

This revelation has prompted U.S. officials to apologize and create two independent investigations to uncover exactly what happened in Guatemala and will be led by Institute of Medicine and the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues.

The reprehensible research conducted in Guatemala came up with no useful information and was hidden for decades. The government researcher who led the work in Guatemala also was involved in the infamous Tuskegee experiment from 1932 to 1972 where scientists found 600 black men in Alabama who had syphilis unknown to them but were offered no treatment.

National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Francis Collins also said that the experiment in Guatemala is just one of the 40 similar deliberate-infection studies conducted in the United States during that period.

Just where is Carmelo Anthony going to play this upcoming NBA season? Will he continue to be a Nugget?

Sources say that the four-way deal sending Melo to the New Jersey Nets is “dead.” Anthony actually attended Denver Nugget’s first day of training camp.

The Nuggets particularly George Karl and J.R. Smith remain hopeful that Anthony will stick around. Anthony, who averaged 28.2 points last season in leading the Nuggets to their second straight Northwest Division title has yet to sign off on a three-year, $65 million extension that’s been on the table since June.

Around the League

… Is Gilbert Arenas really growing up? On his first public appearance since the guns and the conviction, a new Gilbert showed. A serious Agent Zero. Should we give him a chance? He told that the only place he wants to smile is on the court.

Maybe he is out to prove something to everyone. And maybe even to himself.

… Will Orlando Magic’s experiment in their lineup this upcoming NBA season help them conquer the East? The Magic is planning to move Rashard Lewis to his natural small forward position while letting Brandon Bass play the power forward position.

Lewis will now need to defend on the perimeter instead of banging bodies with the likes of Kevin Garnett and Pau Gasol.

… Miami Heat’s Big Three intends to answer their critics on the court. Despite being criticized not only by NBA fans around the league but by the legends such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Charles Barkley, James intends to move forward and not to dwell with the past.

The Big Three sees a bright future for this Miami Heat team. When will that bright future be? It needs to be this upcoming season.

Blake Griffin vs Tyler Hansbrough? The highly-anticipated match in college basketball is not as anticipated in NBA. While everyone says that Griffin will be a sure winner in the NBA, less has been said about the possible success of Hansbrough. Does Hansbrough deserve such biased and immature judgment? A proven winner in college basketball but an expected loser in professional basketball?

A unanimous selection for the 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference All Conference Team, 2006 ACC Freshman of the Year, and 2008 ACC Conference Player of the Year, experts said that Hansbrough at 6-9 is not big enough to guard power forwards and also is not quick enough to guard small forwards. Griffin was drafted as the 1st pick in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers while Hansbrough was drafted 13th by the Indiana Pacers.

At lease he’s got himself an ally and believer in Larry Bird. Are they criticizing Tyler because he is white guy who claimed numerous awards in college?

Hey guys, at least give this kid a chance. Don’t be so bitter when he was taken in the lottery by the Indiana Pacers. Bird liked his talent, character and work ethic and he is hoping that Hansbrough’s success in collegiate basketball will translate to the pro game. He’s proven according to Bird.

Despite his impressive resume in college, fans and experts continue to criticize him. They said that Hansbrough scored million points in college because he benefited from getting nearly every call and his strange-trajectory shots will be swatted in the NBA.

I’ll give Tyler the chance he deserves. I’m not saying he will be great but I’m also not saying that he will be a bust. Let’s just wait and see. Besides, even Blake Griffin and the rest of the guys picked ahead of Hansbrough have not proven themselves either.

Sri Lanka 138-6; Pakistan 139-2 | Pakistan won by eight wickets

Pakistan claim World Twenty20 title with eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka. Runners-up last time, Pakistan went one better in the midsummer sunshine at Lord's, winning the World Twenty20 by eight wickets with eight balls to spare. It was an emotional occasion for a side who have been disenfranchised by terrorism, unable to play matches at home, destined to roam the world in search of cricket to sustain interest and their development. No one, not even those who would have seen as cathartic a Sri Lanka win, will begrudge them their triumph in front of a fervent crowd, the noise of which will have disturbed the St John's Wood Sunday for some hours afterwards.

It was not the final perhaps that the occasion demanded, a pattern that followed the earlier success of the England women. Sri Lanka, such a vibrant side throughout, were lacklustre, unable to recover sufficiently from early setbacks with the bat, and equally unable to make the necessary inroads with the ball, to trouble Pakistan. Set 139 to win on a good pitch, Pakistan had only to fight themselves and their capacity for self-destruction and in this they did not falter, an unbroken third-wicket stand of 76 in 59 balls between the wonderful Shahid Afridi, enjoyment etched into his face, and Shoaib Malik saw them home. A scampered leg bye finished things, leaving Afridi, 54 not out, arms and legs stretched wide before being engulfed by a tidal wave of team mates. To him went the man of the match accolade.

A dictionary would define mercurial as something being characterised by rapid and unpredictable changeableness of mood. Had it not already existed it is a word that might have been concocted specifically for the Pakistan cricket team, a side historically capable of teetering between the twin extremes of sublime and ridiculous. In global tournaments, they can fly by the seat of their pants. In 1992, they were bowled out for 74 by England in an early round World Cup match in Adelaide, saw rain ruin the opposition run chase, gained valuable points, survived a semi-final by the skin of their teeth and went on to beat England in the final on a memorable Melbourne evening. That marked them down as mercurial. They were mercurial in the last World Cup too, but dismally so and the potential was there for a repeat this past few weeks when they lost to England by 48 runs and seemed destined once more for an early exit. Yet roused not by an Imran Khan "cornered tigers" speech as in 1992 but a "let's have a good time" exhortation from Younus Khan, they have overturned a lack of expectation. Better, as Malik will say, to be slow starters than slow finishers.

It was so very typical of Pakistan then that the most influential players in the game were a pair of mavericks. Afridi is an entertainer by nature, a robust player touched with magic. His bowling, fast wrist spin, has been superb throughout but it is his batting that has helped change fortunes, persuading Malik to promote him to No3 in the order and responding, first against South Africa and now Sri Lanka. His was a more measured innings than his reputation as a thunderous hitter of sixes might suggest: there was much running to do and clearly that does not agree with him. But when the time came he rammed down the accelerator, belted Muttiah Muralitharan high into the Tavern Stand and then over extra cover, and sealed things. He batted for 40 balls and hit two fours and two sixes.

Before him though came Abdul Razzaq, a player so disillusioned with life when left out of the squad for the first World T20 in South Africa two years ago that he retired from international cricket and joined the rebel Indian Cricket League. His way back has been fortuitous: an amnesty for ICL players coupled with the withdrawal of the allrounder Yasir Arafat gave him a new lease of life. His response was to open the bowling and take the wickets of Sanath Jayasuriya, Jehan Mubarak and Mahela Jayawardene at a cost of 20 runs, which, with the loss to Sri Lanka of Tillakaratne Dilshan without scoring to the young left armer Mohammad Aamir's fifth ball of the match left Sri Lanka floundering at 32 for four with the power play all but over.

Their recovery was down to the determination of Kumar Sangakkara, who batted through to the end of the innings for 64 from 52 balls, while wickets tumbled around him. It takes a cricketer of character to be able to do that. In the end he found an able partner in Angelo Mathews, the gravity-defying fielder, who hit an unbeaten 35 as part of an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 68 from 44 balls.

With this the pair had given Sri Lanka a glimmer of a chance. For once though, the glamorous bowling was unable to carry the day. Jayasuriya claimed a wicket with his first ball but it was not before Kamran Akmal (37) and Shahzaib Hasan(19) had added 48 for the first wicket, while Muralitharan was to dismiss Shazaib. But that was it. Murali was played with ease, and Lasith Malinga with appropriate caution. The mystery of Ajantha Mendis though is anathema to Pakistan. In the Test series against them earlier in the year he claimed a single wicket for 178 runs. Four overs for 34 yesterday told its tale. Perhaps they will pass on the secret.

With big crowds, record ratings and superb matches the last two weeks have made us fall back in love with cricket

As befits a game where the importance of every scrambled single, every dropped catch and every dot ball is magnified, the players within the boundary rope were not the only ones feeling the pressure as the ICC World Twenty20 Cup began inauspiciously almost a fortnight ago. When drizzle came down at Lord's, Alesha Dixon put away her microphone and the opening ceremony was cancelled, the doom mongers who predicted the tournament would fail to catch the public imagination were sharpening their pencils.

Everyone from ECB chairman Giles Clarke, praying it would help banish thoughts of a tumultuous winter, to sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe, hoping it could kick off a so-called "golden decade" of British sporting events in style, was looking worried. Two weeks later, it is a very different story. Outside the Oval yesterday, fans were effusive in their praise. John Fisher, sporting an England shirt, said it had been "brilliant" and was simply "a great day out". His friend Tony Koodie, backing the West Indies, added: "It's great value for money, great entertainment. It brings in the kids, and there's a lot more women." They were agreed on one other thing, however: "The dancers are dreadful!" After that soggy opening, the sun has shone, both metaphorically and literally. Twenty20 has come of age as a sporting proposition as well as an entertainment one and, after a winter of discontent that took in the Stanford debacle and security concerns sparked by the Lahore attack on the Sri Lanka team bus, international cricket's feelgood factor is back.

"When Twenty20 started out it was a bit of a sideshow. But now it stands on its own," said former England player and coach David Lloyd, whose enthusiastic commentary has soundtracked Sky's coverage. "It's been a raging success because people fill the grounds. Simple as that."

Clarke might want to sign up the three 11-year-old boys sporting a combination of West Indies hats and Sri Lanka shirts near the Hobbs Gate to support his controversial argument that taking the pay TV shilling has helped the ECB grow grassroots cricket. Zak Chillery, Adam Stein and Ryan Davey are united in their fervour for Twenty20. "We like watching the ball being smacked out of the park," says Stein, a Chris Gayle fan. "In Twenty20, you've just got to slog it," adds Chillery. "Something happens every ball." All three say that cricket has become more popular at their school as a result. Jag Bilkhu, a 32-year-old India fan, is on his first trip to a Test ground. "Being a World Cup in England, I thought it would be a good one to come to." The three grounds chosen for the men's tournament – The Oval, Lord's and Trent Bridge – have been packed to the rafters, with more than 95% of all tickets sold. The venues are still crunching the numbers, but anecdotally they believe a fair percentage had never been inside a cricket ground before. Sky has attracted record cricket audiences for its live coverage and the BBC's late night highlights have been watched by more than 1m, despite being scheduled at 11.20pm. Around the world, and particularly in the vital Indian market, it has been hailed as a hit too.

"We knew it would grow, but the speed it grew took everyone by surprise," said Manu Sawhney, the managing director of Asian broadcasting giant ESPN Star Sports, the joint venture between Disney and News Corp that has invested billions in cricket rights. If the 2007 tournament in South Africa ignited the Twenty20 boom with India's victory, the 2009 one has cemented its status. "In 2007, it came across as a flash in the pan, it was all about how swashbuckling you could be with the bat. In 2009, science has become involved." He said comparable ratings were well up on two years ago, despite India's early exit.

Inside the grounds, games have been watched in a raucous, but always good natured, atmosphere. "There's been great banter between the supporters but nothing malicious, not like in football," said Tony Koodie, a West Indies fan at The Oval yesterday. "At the end of the game both sets of supporters will say 'well played'. You don't get that in any other sport." The neat trick of scheduling two matches in the same ground on a single ticket ensured both value for money and the highly unusual alchemy of having fans of all four teams, plus neutrals, within the ground. Organisers feared some fans may disappear once their team had played, but the opposite has proved true.

The innovative decision to schedule the women's semi-finals and finals alongside the men's has also given the female game a boost. Riding the wave of positive press coverage following their one day World Cup win in Australia earlier this year, up to 4,000 fans watched the England team's progress at Taunton before their semi-final victory over Australia at The Oval yesterday.

For tournament director and former South Africa fast bowler Steve Elworthy, the success of the tournament is the culmination of more than three years planning. Filling the grounds and creating a carnival atmosphere was the number one priority. Lessons were learned from the 1999 one-day World Cup, held in England but spread too thinly between grounds, and the interminable 2007 edition of that tournament in the West Indies, which went on forever and was played out in half full stadia. At the first World Twenty20 in South Africa in 2007, three games were played per day, but at different venues, making it harder to fill them."From our point of view, you want to capture the imagination and you want the stadiums as full as possible," he said. "You want the players performing in front of full stands, and you want to make sure the training facilities are of the highest standard so that they can perform at their best." Players and coaches have praised both.

The idea, said Elworthy, was to pack everything into a small number of grounds in a short space of time to create a buzz: "People want more of this. There is no overkill." Derek Brewer, chief executive of Trent Bridge, said the full grounds were a vindication for the policy of investing heavily in Test venues to bring them into the modern era, and pouring hundreds of thousands into improving drainage. The ECB gets a flat fee of $2.5m, plus a share of ticket revenue, for hosting the tournament. The venues get to keep hospitality and catering revenues, while the ICC gets the rest. But for the England and Wales Cricket Board, the reputational boost perhaps means more than money. At a time when it is attempting to establish its place in the new cricketing world order, the commercial and cricketing success of the tournament will have done it no harm at all. Efforts were made to cater both for existing cricket fans, by marketing to the databases of the venues involved, and to reach out to non-cricket fans by releasing tickets in batches and marketing the event more widely. In order to ensure that tickets went to fans of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Elworthy's team marketed them at events attended by the Asian diaspora. At Baishakhi Mela, the largest open air festival in Europe, they set out their stall alongside the bhangra sound systems and curry stalls in Brick Lane. The gangs of lager drinking lads have been present and correct, but so too have the families and a large contingent of overseas fans. Fans have travelled from India, Ireland, Netherlands and Australia as well as less likely countries such as Hong Kong, Switzerland, Canada and Gibraltar. It was notable that when England faced India at Lord's, their fans were outnumbered by those backing the supposed visitors.Clarke, who can take succour from the success of the tournament after a tumultuous winter and ahead of a pivotal summer, promised his guests at the opening dinner that every team was sure to feel at home given the multicultural nature of the crowds. He was proved right and those leading the bid for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups would have been eagerly appreciating the latest example of the UK's ability to provide a home from home for all nations.

Sutcliffewho has attended several matches and will be at tomorrow's final, said the tournament's "fantastic success" could be a key factor in bringing other events to the UK. "Attendances have been superb and cricket lovers supporting teams from all over the world have helped create a carnival atmosphere," he said. "The tournament highlights the expertise we have in this country on putting on world class sporting events. It marks the start of what will be a great decade of sport in Britain, including the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, and we hope the rugby and football world cups."

Brewer said it had strengthened Nottingham's resolve to win its bid to become a host city for the football World Cup. "There have been two key factors. The quality of the people behind the scenes and the investment in the grounds. We wouldn't have been able to do this if we hadn't invested in upgrading the facilities and in drainage."The unpredictablity of Twenty20 cricket, with Holland dramatically defeating the hosts on the opening day and Ireland making it through to the Super Eights, has helped. So too has the athleticism and inventiveness of the best players in the world tackling the challenge of the still relatively new format with relish. In the bars, the talk has been not of dancing girls and DJs but Tillakaratne Dilshan's extravagant overhead flicks, or the slow bouncers and spin that are becoming key parts of the Twenty20 bowling armoury. Players who once treated the format as nothing more than a lucrative earning opportunity at best or a distracting sideshow at worst have queued up to praise it.

"At the beginning, there was a feeling Twenty20 would just be a slog-fest. But in the past fortnight, the bowlers have done brilliantly," said Lloyd. "My theory is that the pitches have been perfect for Twenty20 with pace and bounce, which suits everyone."

Elworthy, who led a small team mainly staffed by organisers seconded from the ECB, feels the overriding principle in balancing entertainment on the pitch with that off it was that the latter must only be triggered by the former. "When Twenty20 started, we tended to throw the kitchen sink at it. We used every single type of activation we could think of. The interaction with the crowd, the video screens, the DJs, the dancers are all important," he said. "But at the end of the day, it's what happens within the boundary that counts – the skill levels of the players, the new shots we've seen."

Next week, the ICC will meet to discuss the future of Test cricket and will consider some of the recommendations from an ECB summit on the subject last year, including enforcing faster over rates and playing under lights. Most parties are agreed that each format of the game must be considered as a distinct entity. But they could do worse than learn from some of the marketing and presentational lessons of the last fortnight in bringing the sport to new audiences. The 50-over game, suffering from too many similar tournaments and a muddled calendar, could perhaps also do with an injection of Twenty20 thinking. "The key thing is the legacy," said Elworthy. "How do we make sure that they stay cricket fans and progress to other forms of the game?"
